Syracuse closes out its nonconference schedule Thursday with a challenging road test against a Binghamton team that has yet to allow a goal this season. The Orange enter the matchup at 3-1-2 after battling Harvard to a scoreless draw on Sunday, a match that showcased the defensive identity Syracuse has developed through the opening weeks.

Goalkeeper Maya Naimoli continues to be one of the biggest reasons for the Orange’s success. She recorded her fourth shutout in five starts against Harvard, making five saves and lowering her goals-against average to an impressive 0.20. Syracuse has consistently received strong defensive performances from players such as Bree Bridges, who has played every minute of the regular season, while veterans Vickie Jones, Chloe Joseph and Jasmine Nixon continue to anchor the lineup.

Although the Orange were unable to break through offensively against Harvard, they generated several dangerous chances late and nearly found a winner. Syracuse will look to turn that attacking pressure into goals against a Bearcats squad that is 3-0-2 and riding a program-record five straight shutouts to begin the year.

With two stingy defenses meeting in Vestal, the matchup could be decided by whichever team can capitalize on its limited scoring opportunities. For Syracuse, it is a chance to build momentum before ACC play begins.
