'I gave everything' - Jodar reacts to defeat in Shanghai final in front of Federer

'I will retire' - Controversial line call enrages Medvedev
Jodar was dominant in the first set, but he faded in the second and third sets, and Davidovich Fokina won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament 1-6 7-6(5) 6-4.
Jodar - who beat Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals to reach the showpiece - was keen to take the positives from his run to the final.
"It was a great week," said the world No. 13, who apologised for swearing at a ball kid during his last-16 win over Botic van de Zandschulp. "I played a lot of matches.
”A lot of things to improve for the next tournament. I didn't get the win today, but still happy about how things are going for me."
Jodar admitted that Davidovich Fokina played the all-important break points better than him.
"He was playing good, too," Jodar said. "[There were] small details in the second set that he played better than me.
"I think that's why he came back in the second set. Then in the third set, a very close one. On the break points, he played better."
Jodar’s week in Shanghai has boosted his hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals for the first time, with the 20-year-old having risen two places in the rankings to ninth.
With Jannik Sinner having been ruled out for the rest of the season with an injury, Jodar is effectively in the final qualifying position.
While the stakes were high in Shanghai on many levels, the final was just "another tennis match" for Jodar.
Asked if he had a different feeling before taking to the court, he said: "Another tennis match.
"Just try to enjoy the moment and the match. I gave everything, but it wasn't meant to be today."

Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam winner, was in Shanghai to watch the final, having played an exhibition match with fellow former world No. 1 Marat Safin on Friday night.
"It was really fun to be on the same side of the net as my brother from another mother," said Federer. "I really enjoyed it, and I hope everyone did too."
Davidovich Fokina saved a series of break points in the second set before winning a tie-break to force a decider in the final.
And the world No. 26 told of his relief after overcoming Jodar to win his biggest title yet.
"I have a blank mind," he said. "I don't know what to say, and I don't know how I feel. Just a huge relief.
"After the first set, I had to keep trying, keep pushing. In the tie-break, I believed in myself again. In the third set, maybe I had a bit more fitness physically."
Davidovich Fokina's win in Shanghai followed successes in Mallorca and Chengdu earlier this year.
