‘I’ve tried to convince my husband to move back home to Ireland’: Could Katie Taylor have a coaching role in Irish boxing?

KATIE Taylor wants to stay involved in boxing in a coaching role but having an input in Irish boxing seems unlikely for her at this stage since she is based in Connecticut, USA.
During the three decades of Taylor’s career as amateur (up to 2016) and professional fighter the sport has changed dramatically and the best women fighters are now on a financial par with their male counterparts. Taylor is credited with leading the way in that revolution.
Her experience, knowhow and integrity would make her a sought-after coach and she doesn’t rule out the possibility of staying involved in the sport that was such a massive part of her life for three decades.
“I think I’d love to stay involved in boxing in some way,” she said.
“I’m living in America at the moment as well so I don’t know how that would work for Irish boxing. I’ve tried to convince my husband to move back home to Ireland but I’m not sure that has gone down very well.
“We’ll see what happens, I would love to stay involved in the sport in some way, I think it would feel very strange for me not to be involved as this has been my whole life for the last 30 years. We’ll see what happens.”
