‘Ice in her veins’ – Tennis fans react to Coco Gauff’s stunning comeback win over Mirra Andreeva at US Open

Coco Gauff came back from a set down to beat Mirra Andreeva 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 in the US Open quarter-final on Wednesday night.

Gauff looked out of sorts in the first set and was heading for a disappointing exit from her home Grand Slam.

However, the 22-year-old showed great mental strength to fight through her inconsistent play in the second and third sets.

Here is what tennis fans had to say about Gauff reaching the US Open semi-finals with her victory over Andreeva.

Coco Gauff impressed fans with her resilience rather than her performance at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday.

The American star saved two match points in the second set before winning the third set comfortably while her opponent struggled.

Many believe Gauff’s mentality could even carry her to her second US Open title this weekend.

A fan summarised her quarter-final win: “Two match points down, and Coco Gauff basically said, ‘I’m not leaving New York tonight.’ Ice in her veins.”

Another said, “Coco’s mental toughness has definitely improved. The Coco of before would barely secure a comeback like this after being floored in the first set. Go Coco!”

“Coco played with our emotions in the second set, but I’m glad she corrected all her mistakes,” a third wrote. “Who isn’t in love with the COCO? Nobody.”

One commented: “Coco does what Coco does. Finds ways to win when she’s not playing well. She does that better than any other player on tour.”

All of the top four seeds have reached the semi-finals!

Two others posted: “Give her the trophy already lol. She can survive anything,” and “Coco the goat Gauff. She just needs to fix those errors and she will be USO champ.”

Gauff will need to raise her game in the semi-final against world No. 1 Elena Rybakina, but she is more than capable of doing it.

Their clash at Arthur Ashe on Friday night should be one of the tournament’s best matches if they both play as well as they can.
