‘If he trains correctly’… Conor McGregor told he could do ‘lot of damage’ if he crossed over into another sport

UFC legend Conor McGregor has everything that he needs to transition into another combat sport once his contract with Dana White’s MMA promotion is up.

That is according to former UFC star Darren Till, who feels that Conor McGregor is a “fighter’s fighter” and could excel elsewhere due to his strong fighting abilities.

McGregor revealed on The Ariel Helwani Show back in June that he had two fights remaining on his UFC contract and the promotion has not renewed his current deal.

The 38-year-old Irishman then made his return to Dana White’s MMA organization in July and McGregor lost to Max Holloway in the first round at UFC 329 in Las Vegas.

UFC BJJ world champion Mikey Musumeci is making the switch to the cage – just how far do you reckon he will go in the sport?

Conor McGregor has been winless in his last three UFC fights after his recent defeat to Max Holloway and back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier in 2021.

The Irish superstar saw his last two fights against Holloway and Dustin Poirier — at UFC 329 and UFC 264 respectively — end early due to separate knee injuries.

Darren Till, who made his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) debut against Aaron Chalmers in May, thinks that McGregor could keep fighting in combat sports.

“I think Conor’s a fighter’s fighter,” he told ESPN.

“He’s very good and slick with his hands, he’s got big hands and he’s got good punch power.

“I think if he trains correctly for it, I think he could do a lot of damage at his weight. He’s big and he’s strong, but he’s just got to recover from his injuries now.

“I know he got really injured in his last fight. So yeah, if Conor wants it, Conor can get it.”

McGregor now has only one fight left on his UFC deal after his defeat to Holloway and the ‘Notorious’ still vowed to return to the octagon after his latest setback.

David Feldman, much like Till, thinks that McGregor could transition into bare-knuckle fighting and is keen to see him part of his organization in the future.

“He has one fight left with UFC; when that fight is done, I would bet everything that he will be fighting for BKFC,” he told ESPN.

McGregor, who underwent successful surgery on his knee injury, has not picked up a win inside the UFC since his clash with Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in 2020.
