India vs Afghanistan 1st T20I Postponed? Schedule Change Expected Due to BRICS Summit and Delhi Police Security Concerns

Cricket fans eagerly anticipating the opening clash of the upcoming three-match T20 series between India and Afghanistan may have to adjust their plans, as the first fixture originally slated for September 13 is reportedly facing a schedule revision. According to recent reports, the high-profile opening match could be postponed by a single day due to administrative and security adjustments, casting uncertainty over the initial itinerary released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the series hosted by Afghanistan.

The proposed rescheduling stems directly from intense logistical pressures on law enforcement agencies in the national capital. With the high-profile BRICS Summit scheduled to take place in Delhi from September 11 to September 13, local security forces are facing an enormous administrative load. The Delhi Police formally communicated their concerns to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), pointing out that hosting a major international cricket match expected to draw between 25,000 and 30,000 spectators on the final day of the global summit would severely strain personnel deployment and emergency management.

In their official correspondence, the Delhi Police highlighted critical traffic management hurdles around the stadium precinct, noting that vital arterial routes including DDU Marg, BSZ Marg, Minto Road, and Kamala Market consistently witness heavy pedestrian and vehicular congestion. Managing simultaneous high-security events posed an unmanageable challenge for the force. While the original BCCI schedule slated matches for September 13, 15, and 17, a shift in the opener could trigger a domino effect on the remaining fixtures. Meanwhile, selectors have named a formidable squad led by captain Shreyas Iyer and vice-captain Tilak Varma, featuring stars like Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, as teams await final confirmation on the revised match window.
