Indian Duo Satwik and Chirag Triumph at China Masters Super 750!

Shenzhen: The renowned Indian men's doubles team, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, showcased an impressive comeback to defeat China's He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu in a thrilling three-game match, securing the China Masters Super 750 title in Shenzhen on Sunday.

This victory marks their third final appearance in this tournament, having previously finished as runners-up in the 2023 and 2025 editions. The Indian duo triumphed with scores of 11-21, 21-13, and 21-17 after a grueling one hour and ten minutes.

This win adds to their season's achievements, following their earlier victory at the Singapore Open Super 750 and a runner-up finish at the Thailand Open Super 500.

The title serves as a significant morale booster for the world No. 5 pair as they prepare to defend their gold medal at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, starting September 19.

Their opponents, a Chinese pair whose ranking had dropped to world No. 70 due to a long absence from competition, faced a tough challenge. He Ji Ting was making only his third appearance after a disciplinary suspension imposed by the Chinese Badminton Association.

Satwik and Chirag had previously defeated the Chinese pair in both of their earlier encounters.

Throughout the tournament, the Indian pair had engaged in three three-game matches, each time dropping the second game after winning the first.

In their tenth tournament of the year, Satwik and Chirag opted to choose ends after winning the toss instead of receiving.

The match began with the Chinese pair quickly establishing a 5-0 lead, utilizing fast, aggressive strokes. They maintained a tight serve and angled attacks, with He Ji Ting's jump smash helping them keep a five-point advantage at 8-3.

Despite the Indians' efforts to penetrate their defense, the Chinese pair extended their lead to six points by the interval. The Indians struggled to match their pace, trailing 7-14 as He Ji Ting delivered powerful smashes.

A service fault from Chirag compounded their difficulties, allowing the Chinese to extend their lead to 17-9, ultimately winning the first game.

In the second game, the Indians improved their performance, tightening their defense and extending rallies. Satwik's flick serve kept the Chinese pair guessing, preventing them from dominating the front court.

The Indians took the lead at 7-6 after a closely contested exchange. A body smash from Chirag propelled them to a 9-6 lead, although a service error from Satwik halted their momentum.

Chirag's quick interception and smash allowed the Indians to take a four-point lead into the interval, having won seven of the last eight points.

While the opening game featured short rallies, Satwik and Chirag extended the exchanges in the second game, forcing the Chinese to work harder for points.

A remarkable 45-shot rally won by the Indians helped them extend their lead to 12-8, and they soon led 17-11. They earned seven game-point opportunities when the Chinese pair found the net, with Satwik sealing the game with an attacking return.

In the deciding game, the Chinese pair initially surged to a 4-0 lead, but the Indians quickly closed the gap to 5-7. After leveling at 7-7, the Chinese regained a two-point advantage at the interval.

Back on their favored side of the court, Satwik and Chirag kept the score close at 11-13. The two pairs engaged in intense exchanges, with the Chinese pair managing to keep the shuttle low during rallies.

The Indians drew level at 16-16 after a service error from the Chinese duo. They then took the lead at 18-17 when He Ji Ting found the net. A fortunate net cord provided the Indians with three match-point opportunities, and Chirag clinched the title with a decisive smash.
