Ishan Kishan slams double century in Duleep Trophy final

Ishan Kishan scored a brilliant double century in the Duleep Trophy final, joining an elite list while helping East Zone take control against South Zone.
Ishan Kishan produced a memorable batting display in the Duleep Trophy final on Monday, scoring a brilliant double century for East Zone against South Zone. The East Zone captain had already reached his hundred on the opening day and continued his aggressive approach on Day 2.
Kishan’s double century also placed him in an elite group in Duleep Trophy history. He became only the fifth batter to score 200 or more runs in a final of the tournament.
Kishan’s achievement puts him alongside four other batters who have previously scored double centuries in a Duleep Trophy final.
Raman Lamba holds the record for the highest score, making 320 against West Zone in the 1987-88 season. Anshuman Gaekwad scored 216 against North Zone in the same season.
Cheteshwar Pujara then struck an unbeaten 256 against India Red in the 2016-17 season, while Yashasvi Jaiswal made 209 against South Zone in the 2022-23 campaign.
Kishan has now added his name to that distinguished list with his outstanding knock in the 2026 final.

East Zone finished the first day’s play at 385/4, with Kishan unbeaten on 111 and Kumar Kushagra not out on 63. The two batters had put together an unbeaten 144-run stand from 26.4 overs, giving their side a strong position in the final.
Kushagra also completed his century on the second day before South Zone finally managed to break the partnership. His dismissal, however, did little to slow Kishan down.
The East Zone skipper remained at the crease and carried on building the innings, eventually moving past the 200-run mark.
The double century was not the only landmark reached by Kishan during his impressive innings.
The left-handed batter also crossed 4,000 runs in first-class cricket and brought up his 10th century in the format. The performance comes as Kishan continues his efforts to establish himself once again as a prominent red-ball cricketer. His ability to spend a long period at the crease has been central to East Zone’s commanding position in the final.
East Zone have not won the Duleep Trophy for 13 years and are now in a powerful position to end that wait.
With their batting effort putting South Zone under pressure, East Zone could potentially seal the title without needing to bat for a second time, provided their bowlers produce the required performance.
Kishan’s double century has therefore given East Zone a major advantage in the Duleep Trophy final, while also marking one of the most significant innings of his first-class career.
