New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson is making progress in his recovery from wrist surgery, according to ESPN's Vincent Goodwill.

"One thing you didn't see on Jalen Brunson's wrist was a brace because he's at about 80 to 85 percent after the wrist surgery that he had in July," Goodwill reported during a Friday appearance on NBA Today (0:13 mark). "Back to doing basketball activity. He'll have no restrictions when training camp begins in a couple of weeks as the Knicks begin their bid to repeat."

After helping the Knicks end their 53-year championship drought with a five-game victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals, Brunson underwent left wrist surgery on July 7.

He previously explained that he played through the injury in the playoffs during a conversation at Variety's Sports and Entertainment Studio in July.

"I was more in pain when I wasn't in the game versus when we were actually playing," Brunson said at the time, via Variety's Marlow Stern. "I feel like the adrenaline took over. But yeah, it was definitely an obstacle, but we found a way through. Because it's my tendon and my structure, my wrist is fine. There was soft tissue that was holding my tendon and it kept flipping and snapping over the bone every time I shot, every time I flicked my wrist, and so clearly it was causing pain, causing friction."

The point guard's production didn't appear to be impacted by the wrist issue, as he led all NBA players by averaging 28.4 points per game in the playoffs. He also shot 46.5 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from behind the arc.

Brunson stepped up again in the NBA Finals, shaking off a slow start during the series to record 32.6 points per game on 42.1/38.9/86.0 shooting splits against San Antonio.

He earned Finals MVP honors for his efforts.

While Brunson may not be 100 percent healthy yet, he still has over a month before the Knicks begin their title defense against the Philadelphia 76ers.

New York will face Philadelphia to open its 2026-27 campaign on Oct. 20.
