Joao Fonseca may have ended his season early, but he is already making plans for later this year.

After all, following his withdrawal after the first round at the Cincinnati Open, the Brazilian phenom has not played since.

By the time December comes around, he will not have played any competitive tennis for just shy of four months.

That is when he will have to summon his very best tennis, if he is to gain revenge on Carlos Alcaraz in the second iteration of their end-of-season exhibition showdown.

Last time, it was in Miami. This time, Joao Fonseca will be on home turf.

Speaking on Instagram, the 20-year-old released a statement confirming his plans to face the former world number one again.

“Hey everyone, it’s João Fonseca, and I have an invitation for you,” he began.

Fonseca then revealed the details: “After that match in Miami, it’s time for a rematch—and this time, it’ll be on home soil.

“On December 12th, I’ll be taking the court in São Paulo to face none other than Carlos Alcaraz. It’s going to be awesome! I can’t wait to see you all there.

“Thanks, and see you in December!”

Back in March, Fonseca pointed out what Alcaraz had over Jannik Sinner, after playing them both in a short space of time. It will be interesting to see how they have both developed since that Miami Open showdown.

Interestingly, that aforementioned match in Miami represents the only tour-level meeting between these two young superstars.

In it, the Spaniard emerged victorious by a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 scoreline.

Alcaraz spoke about the Miami crowd after his win over Fonseca, which was once again packed with Brazilians.

This upcoming exhibition will take that intensity to another level, with Fonseca guaranteed to have passionate and unrivalled support in his home country.

Their only other match came at the Miami Invitational last year, which was an exhibition. Alcaraz also won that match, 7-5, 2-6, 10-8.
