Joe McGrail makes major prediction ahead of Katie Taylor undercard fight at Croke Park

Joe McGrail believes he is destined to go on to bigger and better things when he beats Matthew Boreland tonight. McGrail challenges Boreland for the WBA bantamweight Continental gold belt on the undercard of Katie Taylor's showdown against Flora Pili at Croke Park tomorrow night.

After a lengthy spell out of the ring, the Everton Red Triangle fighter became the new Central Area super-bantamweight champion when he defeated Aaron Hayden last time out. And reflecting on his victory at the M&S Bank Arena back in April, McGrail said: “It was just nice to remind people what I can do.

“Obviously I had a tough year out with an injury so it was nice to remind people. I’ll be looking to do the same on Saturday.

“I’m not really a***d to be honest (on the pressure all being on him). It doesn’t make any difference to me Jamie.

“He’s just the next fella in front of me. I’m going to beat him and then I’m going to progress to bigger and better things.”

While undefeated Coleraine fighter Boreland believes: “This fight is just all to gain, absolutely nothing to lose.

“The pressure is on Joe. I’m just from a wee small town up the other side of the country. I just want to put it on the map.

“I’m just going to go in and give it my all and I’m going to prove I’m the better fighter. We’re going to see if he can get hit, if he’s got a chin. That’s what we’ll find out.”

Taylor will embark on her final ring walk before retirement on Saturday night when she bids to become a three-time undisputed world champion by defeating the unbeaten Pili.

Molly McCann will also feature on the card as she takes on Sylwia Doligala, and the huge Evertonian paid tribute to her cousin and the legacy she will leave after her career.

"It's always been a lovely connection ... But I was very much aware, Katie is such an icon and a hero I wouldn't want people or her to think I was trying to ride the coat tails," McCann said.

"To the girls out there it is nerve wracking when you've got to go into a room full of loads of boys doing a sport which is predominantly theirs but you look at Saturday night it's one woman leading a whole nation.

"She's changed the face of it. Why can't that be you in any sport you choose to do? That's everything that Katie is trying to say and to prove."

DAZN's annual pass starts at £15.99 monthly or £119.99 annually and includes more than 185 fights per year from the world's biggest promoters, plus MMA, BKFC and Misfits crossover boxing.
