Joe Rogan advises Sean Sharaf to retire just weeks after shock KO win over Gable Steveson

Joe Rogan has agreed that there’s a scenario where Sharaf should retire after his monumental KO win.

This past September, Gable Steveson suffered his first ever MMA loss when Sean Sharaf knocked him out in just 12 seconds in their UFC 331 clash in Los Angeles.

The shock result went down as the biggest upset in UFC history as ‘The Smoke’ Sharaf entered the cage as a huge +1200 underdog against the Olympic gold medalist.

Despite his newfound fame and success, though, the 33-year-old is currently unsure whether he wants to even continue with his career in the sport.

Sean Sharaf knocked out the Olympic gold medalist in 12 seconds.

Heading into his UFC 331 clash against Steveson, ‘The Smoke’s’ financial problems were well documented and Sharaf was sleeping on the floor weeks before his fight.

He then revealed in his post-fight press conference that he is in over $600,000 worth of debt, which was made slightly more manageable after Dana White awarded Sharaf a $100,000 bonus.

However, despite saving his UFC career and gaining a lot of traction and popularity in the process, Sharaf revealed he’s considering retirement as he isn’t sure what he is continuing fighting for.

In a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the 33-year-old asked the longtime UFC commentator for his opinion and whether he should walk away from the sport.

Although Rogan attempted to stay hesitant in telling him to retire, he agreed with a scenario which would see Sharaf walk away from the sport after scoring one of the most special knockouts of the decade.

“Well if that’s the case (and you are considering retiring) then definitely go and take mushrooms with your dog because the decision is going to always be entirely yours because it depends on entirely who you are and where you are,” Rogan said.

“There’s nothing wrong with you walking away right now if you want to do that, so you have to think about it. And I think a moment like that is so big that you have to let it settle before you decide.”

Despite remaining on the fence throughout, Rogan seemingly changed his mind towards the end of their conversation, stating that he advises fighters to walk away if they are ‘half in and out’.

Sharaf explained that CT scans he had following his fight show that he has white matter on his brain, and that is why he is considering hanging up his gloves.

“It’s really your decision because if you do something for someone else, especially something like fighting and you end up getting knocked out in your next fight and you were half into it and half out of it. You know, my advice for anyone who has one foot in and one foot out, is get out, always. Every time I know a guy who (is thinking of retiring) I’m like, ‘Stop now’. Most of the time that’s the best advise. Because if you’re not fully 100% committed, you’re gonna run into someone that is.

“Whatever you did for this fight and the way you focused and what you achieved, you could do that with anything in life, it doesn’t have to only be in fighting. What you did was an insanely difficult thing to do and if you could do that, you can do anything,” Rogan added.
