Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are still in talks with Mohit Sharma over the bowling coach's role but they haven't decided on him officially. "Officially, we have still not decided. We are in talks," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to Sports Now while reacting to the report of Mohit's appointment as the bowling coach. Should Mohit join CSK, he will kick off his coaching career with the team which handed him his maiden IPL contract in 2013. CSK signed a little-known Mohit before the sixth IPL edition. The uncapped players weren't part of the IPL auction back then.

Mohit made a memorable start to his IPL career and finished his maiden season with 20 wickets in 15 matches. His dream run in IPL earned him his maiden India call-up and he made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe.

Mohit continued his form for CSK and scalped 23 wickets in 16 matches in IPL 2014 to win the Purple Cap. A member of the 2015 World Cup team, Mohit scalped 13 wickets in only eight matches he played. The right-arm pacer scalped 14 wickets in 16 matches in IPL 2015.

Mohit, who announced his retirement from professional cricket in December 2025, returned to CSK in 2019 and had a one-year stint. He played three finals with the Yellow Army.

Mohit played 26 ODIs and eight T20Is for the Men in Blue. He scalped 31 wickets in ODIs and dismissed six batters in the shortest format. Mohit played for Haryana in domestic cricket.

CSK recently appointed Zaheer Khan as their head coach. He replaced Stephen Fleming, who coached CSK to five IPL trophies. Zaheer has previously worked with Lucknow Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. This will be his first stint as the head coach of an IPL franchise. Zaheer and Mohit never played an international match together.
