Katie Taylor shows her class with comments on opponent Flora Pili after Croke Park fight

Katie Taylor was as humble as ever after recording her 'dream ending to a dream career' at Croke Park on Saturday night.

In front of 83,000 people, Taylor defeated France's Flora Pili to become an undisputed world champion for a third time. Two judges scoring the contest had the Bray native winning all ten rounds (100-90), while the other scored it 98-91.

Despite such a comfortable victory, the 40-year-old was keen to pay tribute to her opponent, who lost her unbeaten record in her 13th bout.

"She was actually a very awkward opponent, a great opponent Flora Pili. Thank you so much to her for being involved in this epic night," Taylor told DAZN.

The 2012 Olympic gold medallist rides off into the sunset after the most incredible career with no regrets.

“I certainly have no regrets and when I look back on my whole career, that’s an amazing thing to be able to say,” Taylor said.

“Now I’m going to relax with the family, have a nice celebration and look back at my time in the ring.

“It’s been an amazing career and last night was a dream ending to a dream career. What a way to end!

“I’m retired now, so I can eat all I want! Just be a bit more spontaneous and go away on vacation whenever I want to. I’m looking forward to putting my feet up and relaxing for a while.

“My whole life has been more of a training camp, so it’s been training camp after training camp after training camp.

“I’m actually going to have the freedom to do whatever I want and just enjoy the fruits of the labour, really. I can’t wait for that.”

Taylor suggested she would like to remain involved in boxing in some capacity following her retirement.

"I'd love to stay involved in boxing in some way," she added. "I am living in Connecticut as well so I don't know how that will work with Irish boxing.

"I'm trying to convince my husband to move back home to Ireland with me. I'm not sure that's going down very well!

"I would love to stay involved in the sport in some way. It would be very strange for me not to be involved since this has been my life for the last 30 years. We'll see what happens."
