‘Key’ New York Knicks player admits he’s ‘disappointed’ as extension talks seem to stall

As the New York Knicks look to secure their roster following their NBA championship win, their talks with Miles McBride have not gone well.
McBride played a huge supporting role in the Knicks’ 2026 run to the NBA championship, coming off the bench and making big shots.
However, with McBride now in the final year of his contract, he and the Knicks have struggled to come to an agreement on a new contract.
Speaking to the New York Daily News, Miles McBride spoke about his recent talks with the New York Knicks for a new contract.
McBride expressed his disappointment that he and the Knicks haven’t come to an agreement, and hoped that his efforts to deliver at the highest level would lead to a quick resolution.
“I love being in New York. Obviously, I’ve been here my whole career,” McBride said. “I’m a little — I’m a little disappointed.
“Of course, you want to obviously come to the right terms, and I want to be in New York. So yeah, it’s a little hard at times, but I’m gonna be a professional. I want to go out and do my job.
“So that’s in my ability, and to help the team win for as long as I’m with the team… Not just quick, but in the NBA, you see it all the time with [contract disputes leading to trades], and you just have to be a professional.
“You can’t worry about those things,” McBride told reporters. “I hope we come to some type of agreement. I’ve played through injury.
“I’ve been through a lot with this team, and I’ve worked my way into being a key guy. So you know, I’d love to get something done.”
During the regular season, McBride was largely unavailable, playing just 41 games while averaging 12.0 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds.
And while his scoring numbers dipped in the playoffs, with McBride averaging just 5.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, his presence on the court helped the Knicks massively.
McBride’s 25-point performance in the Knicks’ second-round sweep of the Philadelphia 76ers was instrumental in allowing the Knicks to make quick work of their rivals and reach the Eastern Conference Finals.
Due to the NBA salary cap constraints, the Knicks are unwilling to pay their role players. This played a huge part in the Knicks losing Mitchell Robinson to the Boston Celtics in free agency.
Hopefully, the Knicks and McBride’s agents can agree to a new contract quickly. Otherwise, the Knicks will have to risk McBride before the deadline, or risk him leaving for nothing in free agency next summer.
