Knicks report about Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart and Miles McBride is far from ideal

Most of the talk over the past few days for the New York Knicks has been centered around what they want to do with Karl-Anthony Towns.
Towns hopes to get a new extension from the Knicks, with reports even indicating he is willing to take a bit less than the max.
Towns, undoubtedly one of the better players in the NBA, especially at center, is worth whatever he's looking for.
He was one of the team's better players a season ago, and you could argue he was just as important as any other player on the roster last season.
As for others who also need contract extensions, Josh Hart and Miles McBride can also negotiate new deals. However, the latest report indicates that none of the three players are in a position to get paid before the start of the 2026-27 season.
“Aside from Towns being eligible for a contract extension this offseason, the Knicks can also negotiate new deals with Josh Hart and Miles McBride. At this time, it continues to look increasingly likely that none of these three will be receiving new extensions from the Knicks before the start of the 2026-27 season,” Brett Siegel wrote.
Plenty can still happen before the start of the regular season, though it's much closer than some realize, with the season beginning in the middle of October.
The Knicks will open up the season against the Philadelphia 76ers on opening night.
For a team trying to go back-to-back, not paying guys doesn't seem like a way to do it.
Not only does this lead to some questions about the future of these guys on the Knicks, but it doesn't make any of them happy, especially Towns.
