Lake Region sports roundup: Big weekend for Devils Lake football, volleyball

It was a great Friday and Saturday for Devils Lake football and volleyball, respectively.

Football won its second straight, led by 380 rushing yards from Egan Laite. The volleyball team won a 20-team tournament in Casselton, eventually beating Thompson in the championship.

Devils Lake volleyball, ranked No. 5 in Division A by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, enters this week with a 10-0 overall record and 1-0 region record. The Firebirds are hosting region matches Tuesday, Sept. 15 and Thursday, Sept. 17 against Harvey/Wells County and Hillsboro/Central Valley, respectively.

Football travels to Fargo South on Friday for its last of four non-region games.

North Star volleyball also keeps winning in Division B, now off to a 10-0 start as well.
