With hockey well underway, why are people writing the Calgary Flames off? Is it because they are a young team? They have some good players that can score. Just give this team time to develop into one of the best in the Pacific Division. If they win lots of games, they will be one of the top teams in the NHL.

(It’s going to take some time)

(Re: ‘No … health, school fees for temporary residents is not racist,’ Rick Bell, Sept. 24) Rick Bell and your paper’s front page (Thursday) say neither Premier Danielle Smith, nor her UCP government, nor the suggested policy of health and school fees for temporary residents are racist. I won’t argue that particular point, but I will say they are contrary to the Bible. From the story of Abraham, to the Psalms and Proverbs, and on to Jesus’ teachings and Paul’s letters, the Bible has a steady drumbeat of welcoming the stranger. Remind the UCP of that.

(Don’t think they’re saying newcomers are not welcome)

Mayor Farkas and city council’s motion to support Alberta staying within Canada rings hollow in the absence of acknowledging what has caused the angst in Alberta. Without vocally calling for more fair treatment and less economic obstruction from the federal Liberals, this motion just smacks of gratuitous virtue signalling. I was hoping in my support of Mayor Farkas I would see less of this and more of Ralph Klein, the pragmatic fighter. This way mayors build a legacy and last beyond one term.

(Farkas clearly feels it is a worthwhile battle)
