OCTOBER 30 — FORMER SWANS SKIPPER SAYS GOODBYE

Former Sydney captain Dane Rampe has announced his retirement after 289 games at the top level, bringing a close to his AFL career at age 36.

The reliable defender returned to his role as club captain for his final match at the top level, after captain Callum Mills ruptured his ACL in their qualifying final win over Brisbane last month.

Rampe was co-captain from 2019 to 2023, and made the honorary All-Australian side back in 2016.

“I grew up dreaming of wearing the red and white,” Rampe said.

“The Sydney Swans felt like home long before I ever walked through the door, and to have not only played for this club, but to have led it, has been perhaps the greatest privilege of my life.

“This has been an incredibly hard decision to make. I have given every part of my heart and soul to this place, and as much as I wish it were otherwise, I simply have nothing left to give. I share this not from a place of exhaustion or defeat, but from one of overwhelming pride and gratitude.

“I have been afforded far more from my career than I ever could have imagined. The experiences, the lessons and the growth that came from the incredible highs and devastating lows transcend football, and I will carry them with me for the rest of my life. I would not change a thing.

“Ultimately, it is the people and the relationships I have forged that I cherish the most. These connections are without doubt my most meaningful achievements. In the coming months, I look forward to thanking the players, coaches, staff and fans in the way each of them truly deserves.

“To the South Melbourne and Sydney Swans family, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this journey with me. I hope I did you, and the jumper, proud.”

Rampe’s retirement means Sydney’s playing list is finalised ahead of the 2026 National Draft.

OCTOBER 29 — PIES SIGN IRISHMAN

Collingwood has officially signed Irish talent Finnbarr Roarty as a category B rookie.

The Pies on Thursday confirmed they’d brought on the 20-year old Gaelic football star, who won the 2025 Young Footballer of the Year for Donegal.

Roarty joins the AFL’s growing current Irish cohort including Adelaide’s Mark Keane, Hawthorn’s Connor Nash, GWS’ Callum Brown, Brisbane’s Conor McKenna and Cats duo Oisín Mullin and Mark O’Connor.

“Finnbarr is a highly talented young athlete with plenty of potential,” Collingwood recruiting manager Shane O’Bree said.

“His competitiveness, athletic profile and leadership qualities have stood out throughout his Gaelic career and we’re excited about what he can bring to our club.

“Moving across the world to pursue an opportunity like this takes courage and we’re excited to be welcoming Finnbarr and his family to the club. We look forward to seeing him embrace the program and continue to grow as a footballer.”

OCTOBER 29 — AXED TIGER OFFERED LIFELINE

Delisted Tiger Steely Green has been offered a second chance to return to the club.

AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich reports Green has been invited to train with the Tigers through the pre-season supplemental selection period (SS) over the summer to try and win a list spot for 2027.

Green was axed by Richmond after 45 games from four seasons since joining the club with Pick 55 in the 2022 National Draft.

It included a career-best 20 AFL appearances in 2026.

OCTOBER 27 — TASMANIA MAKES HISTORIC FIRST AFL SIGNING

JJ Liston Medal winner George Stevens has been signed by Tasmania, and has reportedly become the first AFL player committed to their inaugural list.

The former Geelong midfielder was delisted despite an impressive reserves campaign which see him named in the VFL Team of the Year, splitting the competition’s version of the Brownlow with Frankston’s Trent Mynott.

Stevens played four senior games at the Cats after being taken with pick 58 in the 2023 national draft.

Seven’s Tom Morris reports Stevens will play VFL in 2027 and has committed to a 2028 AFL contract which he will sign when officially allowed.

Stevens becomes the latest former Cat to join Tasmania following senior coach Ken Hinkley and head of development Nigel Lappin.

Tasmania previously made their first ever signings through pre-listings of the best 17-year-olds in the country.

Axel Walsh (the potential 2027 No.1 pick), Jake Miller, Angus Brown, Riley Stratford, Baxter Sruk, Griffin Barker and Nate Jenkins will be paid $150,000 to represent the Devils at Talent League and/or VFL level in 2027 before being contracted as AFL players for three years.

The Devils have also signed Tassie local Hugh McCallum who was draft-eligible this year.

OCTOBER 27 — DOGS CUT GARCIA, COMMIT TO RE-DRAFTING

The Western Bulldogs have delisted Riley Garcia but have committed to re-drafting the midfielder-forward in the rookie draft.

The Dogs said the move was made to allow “flexibility leading into next month’s national and rookie draft period,” with Garcia contracted at Whitten Oval for 2027.

Garcia has played 39 AFL games since joining the club with Pick 62 in the 2019 National Draft.

A hamstring injury sidelined the 25-year old for the majority of the 2026 season, limiting him to just one VFL game.

OCOTOBER 22 — LIONS DELIST PAIR IN MORE PREMIERS EXITS

Brisbane has delisted Darragh Joyce and Luke Beecken as more depth players depart the triple reigning premiers.

Luke Lloyd and Koby Evans have also been “temporarily removed” from the Lions list, with the club committed to re-drafting them in next month’s rookie draft.

Irishman and ex-Saint Joyce departs after 27 AFL games across seven seasons — including three senior appearances for Brisbane this year — while former mid-season draftee Beecken played one AFL game.

“Darragh and Luke have both made a valuable contribution to the Brisbane Lions and have been highly regarded teammates during their time at the club,” Lions footy boss Danny Daly said.

“Darragh’s experience, resilience, and willingness to put the team first have been greatly appreciated, while Luke has shown strong development and application throughout his time in our program.

“We thank them both for their tireless effort and commitment to the club and wish Darragh, Luke and their families all the best for the future.”

It comes after Lachie Neale, Sam Marshall, Will McLachlan and Keidean Coleman departed the club during the trade period.

OCTOBER 22 — SAINTS CUT EX-BLUE

St Kilda has axed ex-Blue Jack Carroll after two seasons at Moorabbin.

The Saints confirmed Carroll hadn’t been offered a new deal after playing 15 of his 36 games for the club since joining the Saints as a delisted free agent.

“Decisions such as these are always tough to make at this time of year,” Saints footy boss Lenny Hayes said.

“We thank Jack for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”

The West Australian was drafted by Carlton with Pick 41 in the 2020 fraft.

OCTOBER 22 — BLUES OFFICIALLY FAREWELL SAAD

Carlton has confirmed Adam Saad’s departure after 110 games across six seasons at the club.

Saad arrived at the Blues at the end of 2020 after previous stints at Essendon and Gold Coast.

The speedster became a fan favourite in navy blue including a career-best All-Australian season in 2022.

The 32-year old has played 219 AFL games since making his debut in 2015, but fell out of favour with just three senior appearances in 2026.

“As a kid growing up just down the road from Carlton, I never took it for granted that I got the chance to play for this club in front of our incredible supporters,” Saad said.

“The ‘woof’ became something really special to me, and I want to say a huge thank you to all the Carlton community for embracing me from day one.

“I leave this club so grateful for the experience I’ve had, the friendships I’ve made and will now work through what the next chapter looks like for me.”

It continues a heavy list turnover at Ikon Park, with Saad the 13th Blue to depart this off-season.

Blues footy boss Chris Davies thanked Saad for his contributions.

“Adam was a real difference maker for our football club during his time, both with the way he played and the way he carried himself,” Davies said.

“His speed and ability to rebound out of defence gave our team so much drive. In the locker room, he had the perfect balance of professionalism and lending a hand to educate the younger players, whilst also being able to build meaningful friendships off the field.

“The connection he built with our supporters was something special. What he has done in the community through the Adam Saad Pathways has been remarkable and really tells you everything about the person he is.

“He will always be welcome at Ikon Park.”

OCTOBER 21 — CONTRACTED EAGLE PART OF DIVISIVE TRADE AXED

Contracted West Coast forward Matt Owies, who was part of the divisive trade which saw Carlton land Pick 3, has been delisted with a year left on his contract.

The 29-year-old came across from the Blues in the multi-club deal that also saw them land Liam Baker and Pick 12, while giving up Pick 3.

The Eagles ended up taking Bo Allan with their first pick, one slot ahead of Murphy Reid, while the Blues nabbed Rising Star winner Jagga Smith at No.3.

Owies had shown promise at Carlton kicking 89 goals in 72 games, but added just nine goals in 19 games at West Coast.

“During ongoing discussions with Matt and his management group, Matt had been open to his time at West Coast coming to an end and moving back to Victoria,” Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke said.

“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Matt for his contribution over the past two years.

“We wish him nothing but the best for the future.”

Owies had a contract for 2027.

“I have loved my time here and know the guys are going in the right direction under Mini,” Owies said.

“It obviously hasn’t worked out like we hoped but that’s life and I wish the club nothing but success.”

OCTOBER 21 — PIES DELIST TRIO, COMMIT TO RE-DRAFTING ONE

Collingwood has delisted Harrison Coe, Noah Howes and Harry DeMattia but committed to re-drafting DeMattia as a rookie.

The Magpies on Wednesday confirmed their list changes for 2027, with ruckman Coe and defender Howe picked up through the mid-season draft the last two years.

Meanwhile, Jai Saxena, Collingwood’s only other player out of contract, has signed a one-year extension.

DeMattia, who’s yet to play a senior game since joining the Pies with Pick 24 in the 2023 National Draft, was contracted for 2027. The 21-year old was looking for more opportunities at other clubs during the trade period.

“We have made the difficult decision to farewell Harrison and Noah. They have both been valuable members of our program and we thank them both for their dedication and contribution to the black and white,” Collingwood list boss Justin Leppitsch said.

“To allow for flexibility in our list management, we have decided to delist Harry but are fully committed to re-drafting him via the rookie draft later in November.”

The club also said they remain “remains open to considering Howes as part of preparations for the upcoming national or rookie drafts”.

OCTOBER 21 — ROOS-BOUND DUO AMONG QUARTET TO FIND NEW HOMES

Former Pick 5 Elijah Tsatas and and ex-Tiger Samson Ryan are set to land at North Melbourne as delisted free agents.

AFL Media’s Callum Twomey reports “you can just about lock in” the pair to join at the Kangaroos when delisted free agency opens next month.

Tsatas was let go by Essendon after 22 AFL games across four seasons.

Meanwhile, Richmond delisted Ryan with a year to run on his deal following 31 senior appearances from five seasons.

“On North, you can just about lock in Samson Ryan and Elijah Tsatas as DFAs,“ Twomey said on Gettable.

It’s among four looming delisted free agency moves, with ex-Magpie Will Parker to join Carlton and veteran forward Jake Stringer to sign with St Kilda.

OCTOBER 21 — GIANTS LET GO FORMER TOP 15 PICK

GWS has parted ways with former first-round pick Conor Stone.

Stone departs after 30 AFL games across six seasons since joining the Giants with Pick 15 in the 2020 draft.

Giants footy boss Jason McCartney thanked the 24 for his contributions.

“Conor has been a valued member of our program over the past six seasons and has always shown a strong commitment to his football, his teammates and the club,” McCartney said.

“He’s shown his versatility across a number of roles and had some strong performances at VFL level, highlighted by being named our VFL Player of the Year in 2024.

“While we’ve made the decision to move in a different direction, we’re grateful for Conor’s contribution to the club and wish him all the best for whatever comes next in his football career.”

OCTOBER 20 — ROOS CULL THREE MORE

North Melbourne has confirmed additional list changes, delisting Cooper Harvey, Zac Fisher and Luke Urquhart on Tuesday.

Harvey, the son of club great and former games record-holder Brent, managed just 17 senior games across four seasons at Arden Street.

Fisher’s trade move in late 2023 saw him play 26 games for the Roos, while West Australian midfielder Urquhart never managed an AFL debut amid an injury-interrupted stint.

Fisher had one year left on his North Melbourne contract.

The trio joins Bailey Scott, Callum Coleman-Jones, Robert Hansen jnr and Brayden George in having been cut by the Kangas this offseason.

OCTOBER 19 — CATS CUT OUT-OF-FAVOUR MIDFIELDER

Geelong has delisted five-year midfielder Mitch Knevitt, the club confirmed on Monday.

The 23-year-old managed 23 senior games during his time at Kardinia Park, including just two this year while averaging 25.8 disposals in the VFL.

He never played more than eight AFL games in a season under coach Chris Scott.

The Cats say they are open to re-listing Knevitt via one of November’s drafts.

The rangy ball-winner becomes the fourth Cat delisted this offseason, joining Jed Bews, George Stevens and Keighton Matofai-Forbes on the outer.

The Geelong Falcons product was the 25th overall pick in the 2021 national draft.

“Mitch has been a dedicated member of our program over the past five seasons at Geelong. He’s brought a team-first approach to his footy, versatility, and been a great teammate,” list boss Andrew Mackie said in a statement.

“These decisions are never easy, and we thank Mitch for his contribution to the Club and wish him all the best.”

OCTOBER 19 — BIG-NAME FORWARD TO LAND AT MOORABBIN

St Kilda has confirmed its intent to sign Jake Stringer in next month’s delisted free agency period.

Less than a day after SEN’s Sam Edmund reported the 2015 All-Australian will join a fourth AFL club, the Saints formalised its commitment via a statement on Monday afternoon.

“Jake has a proven ability to hit the scoreboard and we believe he can add another dimension to our forward line,” St Kilda General Manager Lenny Hayes said.

“Jake’s experience and goal kicking ability will complement the talent we already have while giving us greater flexibility and depth in attack.”

The Giants made the call to refresh their list and part ways with the 32-year-old, despite him having one of his best AFL seasons, kicking 48 goals from 23 matches.

Despite kicking 440 career goals Stringer couldn’t find a home in the trade period but now the Saints, who are desperate to return to the finals, are reportedly his new home.

Stringer played 38 games over two years at GWS, after 123 games over seven years at Essendon and 89 games over five years at the Western Bulldogs — inclusive of a premiership.

OCTOBER 17 — BOMBERS DELIST THREE MORE

Essendon has made further list changes ahead of next season, delisting Nik Cox, Tom Edwards and Kayle Gerreyn.

The Bombers say they will consider the trio for train-on opportunities in the summer, depending on available list spots.

Cox played 61 games over six seasons in the red and black after arriving as the eighth overall draft pick in 2020.

The tall utility battled repeated concussion issues, which along with form inconsistency hampered his AFL progress.

Edwards kicked 11 goals from nine career senior games, having made a return from a ruptured ACL last year, while Gerreyn never debuted for the Dons.

“We’ve had conversations with all three boys and made them aware of the direction we’re taking with our list,” Rosa said.

“These decisions are never easy, and we’re thankful for everything Nik, Tom and Kayle have contributed to the club during their time at Essendon. They’ve handled tough news with class and maturity as expected.

“‘Coxy’s troubles with concussion in recent seasons were well documented but he always maintained a really positive outlook on his footy, and we were rapt he was able to get back on the park this year and show some good form up forward in the VFL.

“‘Shifty’ and Kayle were unlucky with their setbacks at different stages this year. It was great for Tom to work his way back from an ACL injury and get more senior footy under his belt in 2026.

“While Kayle didn’t debut for the Club, he took a lot out of his two seasons at the elite level.

“With that, we’ve made it clear that we’re not closing any doors on these boys. There may still be opportunities for them to train on with us over the summer, depending on the future shape of our list and how our drafting plays out.”

The Bombers currently hold picks No.1, 17, and 25 as November’s national draft approaches.

Cox, Edwards and Gerreyn join Elijah Tsatas, Matt Guelfi, Jade Gresham, Saad El-Hawli and Liam McMahon in being delisted by Essendon this year.

OCTOBER 16 — THREE EAGLES EXITS... BUT THERE COULD BE A LIFELINE FOR ONE

An offseason of change has continued at West Coast, with the Eagles confirming Clay Hall, Harry Schoenberg and Jack Williams will not be offered contracts for 2027.

Harry Barnett, Tyler Brockman and Harvey Johnston were among the first wave of delistings at West Coast, while Jamie Cripps announced his retirement in June after tearing his ACL.

Now a new trio of Eagles have been farewelled by the club, although it may not be the end of the road for Williams with The West Australian reporting he could play for the Tasmania Devils in the VFL next year.

That, of course, could put Williams in a position to land a spot on Tasmania’s list for its inaugural 2028 season.

Williams played 12 games for an injury-hit West Coast this season, while Schoenberg made five appearances after joining the Eagles via the Supplemental Selection Period.

Hall, the son of former Eagle Derek Hall, didn’t get a game for the Eagles this year but is already generating interest from a number of WAFL clubs according to The West Australian.

“It’s always a challenging time when list decisions are made and today we have informed Clay, Harry and Jack they will not be offered contracts for next season,” Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke said.

“We would like to thank each of them for their commitment to West Coast and for the contributions they have made on and off the field.

“We wish them every success in their future endeavours.”
