Liversedge lose top spot after below par display in north east

Sedge travelled north in good spirits after a superb 5-2 victory over Lincoln United in their previous game, but suffered a 2-1 defeat that saw them knocked off the top of the table.
"I don’t think we did the basics well,” said manager Forrest. “We started off well, first five, 10 minutes probably should have been 1-0 up with the chances we created, but after that we did not consistently do the basics well enough – clearing our lines, getting distances on clearances, second balls, making it stick up top, enjoying the ball a little bit more.
"We just turned it over far too many times and for 20 minutes in the first half we didn’t get any control in the game.
"You’ve got to come away to places like this and do the basics as well as you can and we haven’t done them.
"You’re up against it coming to places like this and you’ve got to be more robust. We’ve shown we can do it so that’s the frustrating thing.
"It’s concentration, taking information on board, applying it and consistently doing it and not moving away from it too much."
Forrest added: “On the whole it’s been a really good start to the season. But we can’t keep relying on the past, whether it’s last season or the last six or seven games. It’s the here and now.”
It may have been a different tale for Sedge had Laurence Sorhaindo been able to take an early chance, but he was denied by the home keeper.
Heaton were ahead from the 14th minute and dominated the rest of the half, doubling their tally just before the break.
The visitors improved in the second half and their efforts were rewarded when Kelan Swales pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time. They also had a big penalty shout for handball turned down and fell just short.
Liversedge are quickly back in action in another away game tonight when they travel to Hallam.
