Local Commonwealth Games Medalist Lauren Mackie inspires young participants at Desborough Green Space Junior parkrun

Desborough Green Space Junior parkrun was thrilled to welcome local sporting star and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Lauren Mackie as a special guest at a recent Sunday morning event.
Born and raised in Desborough, Lauren returned home after her podium success for Team England in boxing. She took time out of her training schedule to meet with young participants, parents, and community volunteers at the weekly 2km event.
During her visit, Lauren spoke to the young runners before they set off, sharing her journey from local grassroots sport to competing on the international stage. She spoke about the power of dedication, staying active, and setting big goals, encouraging all the children—whether running, walking, or volunteering—to keep trying their best and enjoying sport.
Lauren stayed throughout the morning to cheer on the juniors at the finish line, sign autographs, and pose for photos with her Commonwealth Games bronze medal.
"It was amazing to have a home-grown hero like Lauren join us at Desborough Green Space Junior parkrun. Having someone from our own town reach such incredible athletic heights is hugely inspiring for our juniors. Lauren's words reminded everyone that big dreams can start right here on our local green spaces." said Matthew Peleszok, Event Director.
Lauren is hard at work preparing for her upcoming international competitions as she continues her journey towards the top level of her sport.
