Lovlina Borgohain secured at least a silver for India after qualifying for the 75kg final, securing a split-decision victory over Kazakhstan's Natalya Bogdanova in the semifinal, winning the bout with a 3-2 verdict. The Indian boxer had to fight her way back to the contest after dropping the first round, but she made a terrific comeback to march into the summit clash.
Bogdanova's supporters created a noisy atmosphere around the ring, and the Kazakh boxer looked to feed off the energy, throwing punches with greater intent. Lovlina, however, remained composed and began relying more on her defence while carefully choosing her moments to attack. The Indian responded well whenever Bogdanova managed to connect.
It was a tense finish, with the judges facing a difficult decision after three competitive rounds. In the end, Lovlina was awarded a 3-2 split-decision victory. Lovlina made it to the final in the previous edition of the Asian Games, but had to settle for a silver after losing the final. She will be keen to go a step further and bag a gold for the country.
