That makes Lovlina the first Indian woman boxer to reach two Asian Games finals. Her record on the biggest stage already includes a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and the 2023 World Championships gold, but 2026 has brought its own twists.

She began the year with a bronze at the Asian Boxing Elite Championships after losing to Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova in the semi-finals. At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Lovlina bounced back to reach the 75kg final, where she took silver after losing to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree.

Lovlina opened her Asian Games campaign with a 5-0 unanimous-decision victory over South Korea’s Seong Suyeon in the quarterfinals, the same opponent she had beaten at the 2022 Asian Games. She then faced Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova, the reigning 70kg world champion, in the semi-final and edged a tight bout 3-2.

Bao Ziyi has been equally convincing on the other side of the draw. The Chinese boxer is the reigning 75kg Asian Elite champion and entered the Asian Games among the leading names in the division. She booked her place in the final with a 5-0 win over Vietnam’s Luu Diem Quynh in the semi-final.
