Magnolia, Paragon II face key tests

Magnolia Hockey Club and Paragon Hockey Club II will seek crucial points in the Open Women division when the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board (TTHB) Indoor League continues on Saturday, with the published fixture list showing a reduced programme this weekend.

Magnolia meet Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) at 5 p.m., while Ventures Hockey Club take on Paragon II at 6 p.m. No matches are currently listed for Friday or Sunday, and the Open Men division has no fixtures scheduled over the weekend.

Magnolia will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record and close the gap on leaders Paragon, who have 18 points from seven matches. Magnolia are second on 15 points after winning all five of their games, with two matches in hand on the leaders. Police are fourth with six points from six outings, and will be hoping to upset the form book against the in-form Magnolias

The evening’s second match also carries implications for the upper end of the table. Paragon II are third with 15 points from seven matches, while Ventures are near the foot of the standings with two points from seven games, having drawn twice and lost five times.

A win for Paragon II would take them level with the leaders on points, while Ventures need a result to revive their campaign.

In the Open Men division, Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) remain the team to catch.

They have won all eight of their matches to lead with 24 points and a goal difference of plus 47. Police and Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force are tied on 13 points, although Police occupy second place with the superior goal difference.

There will be no Open Men action this weekend, but the next listed fixture is an important meeting between Defence Force and Police on Thursday, November 5, at 7 p.m. QPCC strengthened their position with a 5-2 victory over Defence Force on October 25.

QPCC also lead the Trinity Men division, with 19 points from seven matches after six wins and a draw. Police and Carib Hockey Club are level on 16 points, but Carib have played only six games compared with Police’s nine, leaving them well placed to challenge for second spot. The next listed matches are on Friday, November 6, when Carib face SHAPE at 8 p.m. and QPCC meet Fatima Hockey Club at 9 p.m.

In Mixed Vets, Police lead with seven points from three matches, ahead of QPCC on four points from two games. Paragon are bottom with no points from three outings. Police and QPCC are scheduled to meet on Sunday, November 8, at 7 p.m.

The National Schools Indoor Tournament is also on a break this weekend, with fixtures scheduled to resume on Saturday, November 7. In the Under-16 Boys division, Fatima College 2 lead with six points from three matches, followed by Fatima College 1 and Rosewood-Trimont College on four points each.

Holy Name Convent head the Under-16 Girls standings with two points from two drawn matches, while St Francois Girls College and Bishop Anstey High School have one point apiece.

St Mary’s College lead the Under-19 Boys division with six points from two wins. Both Fatima College teams have three points, while St Anthony’s College are yet to get off the mark.

In the Under-19 Girls competition, St Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain top the table with six points, ahead of Holy Name Convent and Providence Girls, who have three points each. St Francois Girls College are still searching for their first points.
