Magnus Norman’s full coaching record on the ATP Tour ahead of partnership with Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner’s partnership with coaching legend Darren Cahill will come to an end at the end of this year.

Since joining Sinner’s team in 2022, Cahill has helped guide the Italian to five Grand Slam titles, 10 Masters 1000 titles, and the world number one ranking.

Sinner’s next coach was confirmed by The Times on Monday evening – the Italian is set to hire former world number two and 2000 Roland Garros finalist Magnus Norman.

Norman retired from his playing career in 2004 and first worked as a coach on the Tour in 2008.

What has the Swede achieved since then?

Norman’s first stint in coaching occurred in 2008 when he teamed up with compatriot and 2002 Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson.

Norman coached Johansson throughout the final stages of the Swede’s tennis career, before joining Robin Soderling’s team in 2009.

Soderling achieved his best results under Norman’s tutelage, reaching back-to-back Roland Garros finals from 2009 to 2010 and achieving a career high ranking of world number four.

Norman spent three years away from the Tour before becoming Stan Wawrinka’s head coach.

Norman has been an instrumental figure in Wawrinka’s career, having worked with the Swiss legend on three separate occasions.

Under Norman’s guidance, Wawrinka won three Grand Slam titles – the 2014 Australian Open, Roland Garros 2015, and the 2016 US Open.

Wawrinka also won the 2014 Monte Carlo Masters – the Swiss player’s only Masters triumph – while working with Norman.

Norman is set to take up the reins of Jannik Sinner’s coaching team following Wawrinka’s retirement at the end of this season.

Stan Wawrinka was the clear underdog heading into the 2015 Roland Garros final; it was his first appearance at that stage of the event and he was up against the best player in the world at the time, Novak Djokovic.

Wawrinka ultimately upset the odds in Paris, beating Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

After the final, Wawrinka revealed the crucial role Magnus Norman played in his success.

“We had a good talk with Magnus before the final. I was feeling really relaxed on Saturday and Sunday morning until maybe 15 minutes before going on the court,” Wawrinka said

“Then I start to be really nervous and I started to tell myself, ‘what the f*** is happening?’

“I had a good talk. Magnus is always confident in me. He always finds the good words to make me believe in myself and to go on the courts knowing and believing that I can beat the number one player in a Grand Slam final.”
