Everton have gone through a fair few managers over the years.

Sadly, it’s been a tumultuous time at Everton over the past decade or so, and even after the return of David Moyes and an unbeaten start to this season, there isn’t a feeling of wholesale stability around the manager.

Indeed, David Moyes’ future has been questioned at times, and Everton haven’t been scared to change managers in the past despite decent results on the pitch.

Roberto Martinez was sacked after three decent years with the club in 12th in the Premier League, while Sam Allardyce was fired after leading the club to eighth in the Premier League.

Now, speaking on Peter Crouch’s Podcast, Allardyce has been discussing his Everton dismissal and the situation around it.

Allardyce spoke about his time at Everton and the situation around his departure.

The former England manager says he thinks outside influences led to his Everton sacking and that he still doesn’t understand why he was let go.

“The big thing, and I have to emphasise this, at Everton, I finished eighth at Everton and got sacked by the way. I still don’t understand why that was. Outside influence made the board sack me, it never got explained to me,” Allardyce said.

Allardyce says he doesn’t understand why Everton sacked him, and, in a way, we can see where he was coming from.

Big Sam did take Everton to eighth in the Premier League, and his record as the Blues’ boss was more than respectable.

However, when you look at the numbers there is one glaring issue – the number of goals scored.

31 goals in 26 games is a dreadful return, and it’s certainly not ‘The Everton way’.

Everton fans want entertainment, especially at that time off the back of Ronald Koeman’s departure, and while Allardyce did a good job of steadying the ship, it was hard to imagine how he was going to be accepted as a long-term solution for the Toffees.
