Matthias Jaissle gives Newcastle fans answer they'll love after being asked about Plan B

Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle has lifted the lid on his mentality for Premier League away games - admitting he has a few plans up his sleeve this season.

Jaissle remains unbeaten in the Premier League and Carabao Cup and takes his team to what will be a bustling Elland Road under the lights. The Yorkshire club go into the game on the back of a 6-3 hammering at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, but like Newcastle, they have started the season with two draws and a win.

The German head coach got his tactics exactly right in the last away game at Tottenham Hotspur as the Magpies bided their time and took their chances in the second half to seal a 2-0 win. But as the season moves along it will be interesting to see if Jaissle becomes more pragmatic in certain matches.

When asked his views on parking the bus away from home, Jaissle told Chronicle Live: "It is always depending on what the opponent is giving you. As much as possible, you want to put your stamp on the pitch. But there are always opponents that will try to do the same.

"You need to be smart, you need to adjust and also in the game you need to use momentum. It is easier said than done, sometimes, but we are aware we don't only have one plan.

"So there is also an adjustment in place to what we can do and using every opportunity to get great results."

Newcastle had an appropriate warm-up to this fixture after surviving everything that was thrown at them at the New Den during the 1-0 win over Millwall in the Carabao Cup. The usual hostilities from the Leeds faithful will be served up Jaissle and his players, and he gave the impression of a man who expects nothing less.

Jaissle said: "The atmosphere will be special and we aware of it like we were at the Den. We need to match that, the players will need to match that. If we can do that, along with the support of the fa we can get a good result.

"We didn’t have so much training time so far together, a lot of games. I am impressed how fast the players have adapted to us, how open-minded they are and how committed they are.

"It is a huge advantage if you have these fundamentals in place already."

Jaissle also spoke about the DNA of his team and what will be needed in order to make this a season to remember. Reflecting on what he's witnessed so far from a group of players he met just five weeks ago, Jaissle said: "There are many, many strengths in place. Not only the fundamentals, what is needed in football if you bring them on the pitch, but also aspects clearly highlighted for our DNA, for our way of playing. How we already scored goals with clear patterns, with counter-attacks that were already on a high level.

"But there's also a way to improve. You know that we are eager to improve, and especially to create more chances. That's one topic we're talking at the moment about.

"Now we've already managed to have clean sheets. Also, that's an important factor to win games. It's a process, we know where to adjust things, but it needs to be done step by step, especially when you don't have too much time to train."
