Maveric Lamoureux Out Multiple Months After Shoulder Surgery

The Utah Mammoth will be without a former first-round pick for much of the 2026-27 season. Shortly before the team announced its opening-night roster for the upcoming campaign, the Mammoth announced that defenseman Maveric Lamoureux will miss the next four to six months due to shoulder surgery.
Because of the shoulder surgery, Lamoureux’s 2026-27 season won’t begin until late January at the earliest. If he waits until the later part of Utah’s recovery timeline, Lamoureux might not return until only a few weeks are left in the regular season.
Simply put, it’s a devastating injury for a defenseman who was aiming to take the next step. The now-defunct Arizona Coyotes drafted Lamoureux with the 29th overall pick of the 2022 NHL Draft from the QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltigeurs.
Lamoureux, 22, spent a few more years with the Voltigeurs before joining the professional ranks for the 2024-25 season. He spent most of the year with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners, scoring two goals and 13 points in 42 games with a -6 rating.
Impressively, Lamoureux spent 15 games with the Mammoth that season. It wasn’t a phenomenal showing, but he didn’t look out of place either. He finished his first stint in Utah with one goal and three points in those contests with a +3 rating, averaging 16:07 of ice time per game. Additionally, Lamoureux picked up 42 PIMs and managed a 92.0% on-ice SV% at even strength.
This past season was spent almost exclusively with AHL Tucson. He finished the 2025-26 season with five goals and 20 points in 65 games with a +7 rating and 75 PIMs. In five games with the Mammoth, Lamoureux tallied one assist.
Given Utah’s defensive depth, it wouldn’t have been easy for Lamoureux to crack the opening-night roster, regardless of the injury. Still, an argument exists that he could have taken Nick DeSimone’s spot on the right side. Regardless, Lamoureux will be playing catch-up when he returns from injury later this season.
