Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna breaks silence on ‘pain’ 12 years after F1 legend’s skiing accident

Corinna Schumacher has spoken about the pain she feels over her husband Michael Schumacher, 12 years after his skiing accident. In the upcoming Netflix documentary Schumacher ’94: The Birth of a Legend, she recalls their early relationship and says one song brings tears. The film focuses on Michael Schumacher’s 1994 Formula 1 season, when he won his first world title with Benetton. Corinna also talks about her mother’s early disapproval and shares a lighter memory from Michael’s fan mail. The documentary will be released globally on Netflix on October 2, 2026.

Paula Abdul’s “Rush Rush” is still closely linked to the couple’s early years. Corinna said: “That was our song back then,” she says. “When I hear it today and I’m in the car, I cry to myself.”She also remembered that her mother did not support the relationship at first. “My mother was completely against it. Michael was always at the go-kart track and was always pushing others out.“My mother always said: “Look at Schumacher! They have a go-kart track at home, they throw out anyone who does anything wrong, and now he’s throwing people out!” My mother would say: “Schumacher, Schumacher.””

Corinna also recalled unusual fan mail from a young girl named Jutta. “He received a lot of it,” she says. “Also from a young girl who always sent underwear along with his mail. Her name was Jutta. At some point, “Come on, Jutta,” became his standard phrase.”Corinna recalled how she felt during Michael’s racing career. “My heart beats for him when he wins. And when he loses. My heart is always there,” she says. “When you’re with someone you look forward to seeing every day, it’s wonderful.”

The documentary gives no detailed account of Michael Schumacher’s condition. Corinna has continued to protect his privacy. The Daily Mail reported that Schumacher is no longer bedridden and can sit in a wheelchair, but his family has not publicly confirmed those details. A source quoted in the report said: “The feeling is he understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them.”In the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher, Corinna said: “Michael is here. Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength, I find,” she said. “He still shows me how strong he is every day.“We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond.

“And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will. We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives.““Private is private”, as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael.”Leonine Studios says Corinna is among those recalling Michael Schumacher’s 1994 season.
