Michael ‘Venom’ Page’s long-time teammate highlights walkout as the reason UFC didn’t re-sign him

Alfie Davis believes the UFC had already made their minds up on Michael ‘Venom’ Page before his recent fights.
Page said it himself that he doubted the promotion would re-sign him after not delivering a highlight in the final fight on his contract.
According to Dana White, it was the matchmakers’ decision to not offer Page a new deal, which he only found out about when everyone else did via a press conference.
A fighter that has spent a lot of time around ‘MVP’ in the past believes that it was what the Brit did before he got in the cage that was the real issue for the promotion.
'MVP' was not offered a new contract despite winning 5 of his 6 UFC fights.
Michael ‘Venom’ Page said that he felt creatively stifled by the UFC when wanting to put together memorable walkouts for his fights.
As one of the more unique personalities in the sport, ‘MVP’ still found ways to express himself, with his UFC London entrance to Michael Jackson’s ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ clearly sending a message.
This was his first fight since Page was critical of Conor Benn’s Zuffa Boxing deal and the way that he was being matched.
Former PFL title challenger and tournament winner Alfie Davis is a long-time teammate of his at London Shootfighters, though he now trains out of Great Britain Top Team.
In a video posted on his Instagram, Davis said that he believes it was Page speaking out on things like this that led to the UFC deciding that they were going to part ways with him.
“No one’s really spoken about this so I think I need to bring it up,” he said. “His performances were blamed as the reason he got cut but I believe it was a different reason. I believe it was the fact that when he fought Sam Patterson, he came out to the song ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ by Michael Jackson.
“He’s never said this to me but I believe he came out to that song because Conor Benn got signed for $15 million to box for Zuffa… I feel like they already had in mind that he was going to get cut, good performance or not.”
Davis added to this by pointing to Page not being given a post-fight interview for his last two fights.
During his video, Alfie Davis called for what he believes would be a solution to instances like Michael ‘Venom’ Page not being re-signed.
The positive news for ‘MVP’ is that he’s parting ways with the UFC at a time where there are several other viable options for him.
Page has already spoken about receiving offers from every possible destination, though Davis wants the fighters to have more power.
“I think this just sort of outlines the dictatorship that the UFC runs and I really feel like we, as fighters, need to get this union sorted out,” he said. “More fighters need to be outraged at what’s going on and we need to form a union to protect us.”
