Matthias Jaissle may be without a number of players as Newcastle United take on Coventry City in a little over a week, as a result of various injuries.

It's been a positive start to the Premier League season for the new head coach, who succeeded Eddie Howe this summer. The Magpies sit ninth on the table with two wins, two draws and a loss from their opening five fixtures.

With the international break for the Nations League now past the halfway point, players are set to return to Tyneside to prepare for their respective upcoming league matches.

For Newcastle, that comes in the form of a clash at the Coventry Building Society Arena at 8pm, on Monday, October 12.

And while Jaissle would have ideally had a fully fresh first-team to pick and choose from for the battle against the Premier League new boys, the German head coach instead has a number of player injuries to navigate.

Here, Chronicle Live breaks down the latest injury news and return dates regarding Newcastle United...

Ewen Jaouen was sent home from international duty with the France Under-21s squad prematurely as a result of an injury picked up during training. The 6ft 6in goalkeeper was sent for an MRI scan before returning to Tyneside.

It comes as the £25million summer signing has only just recovered from an ankle issue which sidelined him for three matches for the Magpies. And the most recent snag means that Jaouen is likely to miss Newcastle's next game against Coventry, with Nick Pope potentially serving as Lukas Hornicek's back-up.

Potential return date: Unknown

The news broke on Thursday that Lewis Miley had also returned from England Under-21s duties as a result of an injury picked up in training. The 20-year-old midfielder will see further assessment when he returns to Newcastle, although his issue is not thought to be one which will keep him sidelined for an extended period.

Joelinton was able to make just two appearances in pre-season for Newcastle as a result of injury, and is yet to feature competitively for the Magpies this term. It is unknown when the Brazilian will be available for selection, although he has since returned to training in a positive turn of events.

Potential return date: Unknown

Will Osula suffered a foot injury during Newcastle's opener with Liverpool in late August, but Jaissle says that the Dane is working hard to return. He explained: "He's now permanently getting the best treatment.

"We have a fantastic medical department, but it's still too early to make a clear prognosis, a clear time frame when he's back, but he's working hard in the rehab like all the others."

Potential return date: Unknown

Tino Livramento, meanwhile, snubbed the opportunity to represent England in the Nations League, instead, opting to recover from a minor setback of his own. The full-back has battled his fair share of injury over the past couple of seasons, and speaking about his latest ahead of the break, Jaissle said: "He suffered with some discomfort in the morning after yesterday's (Friday's) training.

"He will have an MRI scan but nothing more from my side on this. After this international window. We hope, we pray, and we're optimistic. That's the only thing at the moment in this situation, what we can do. We count on the medical department to get the players back as soon as possible."

Dan Burn rolled his ankle on the eve of Newcastle's Premier League opener against Liverpool, and was subsequently spotted at the match wearing a protective boot. However, speaking to the media recently, Burn explained that he hopes to return after the international break.

He said: "It's my not first injury and I'm sure it won’t be my last, but hopefully I won't be out for too long - I expect to be back after the international break."

Summer signing, Nico Gonzalez, missed Newcastle United's 2-1 win over Hull City ahead of the break. Like Joelinton, he is back in training and could be available for the club's next match.

Potential return date: vs Coventry City - Monday, October 12

Amar Dedic looks fine to be back in action against Coventry City, having pulled out of Bosnia & Herzegovina's squad for the Nations League. The full-back missed the Hull game, having been subbed off five days earlier against Leeds with a hamstring issue.

However, he should be fit to play a part at the Coventry Building Society Arena in 10 days.

Potential return date: vs Coventry City - Monday, October 12

While Jacob Ramsey was not pictured during open training with Newcastle United this week, there are not thought to be any major setbacks in his recovery from a thigh injury.

Potential return date: vs Coventry City - Monday, October 12

Jaissle recently confirmed that Anthony Elanga's thigh injury is not as bad aa first feared, despite the winger missing international duty with Sweden. Speaking last month about Elanga's situation, the head coach said: "Hopefully it is not too bad but we are taking it step by step.

"We are counting on the medical department to bring him back as soon as possible. We are being smart in the process, it is a long season so we don't want to hurry up too much. But also I want to have him back as soon as possible."

Potential return date: Mid to late October
