Multiple clubs reach out to Chris Fagan as Adam Simpson emerges as a surprise candidate for Lions job

Chris Fagan is set to make a swift return to the AFL football, with Carlton, Melbourne and Tasmania all reaching out to secure the services of the premiership-winning coach.
The former Brisbane coach will relocate to Melbourne in January and has no plans to take time away from the game, despite admitting he was worn out after 10 years in charge of the Lions.

Carlton has been strongly linked with Fagan’s services, while 7NEWS reporter Tom Morris revealed Melbourne have also expressed interest, as well as Tasmania.
Fagan previously worked at the Demons as Neale Daniher’s assistant in the early 2000s.
Tasmania have also made contact with Fagan, a predictable move given his strong links to the state.
“He’s happy to be in Victoria on a full-time football role and I understand would like to ideally replicate the role he had under Alastair Clarkson between 2008 and 2013 which was the head of coaching and development at one of these clubs,” Morris said.
“Now can you do that from Melbourne for Tasmania? It remains to be seen but certainly at the Demons and Carlton and even one non-Victorian club has reached out for his services. He’s a wanted man at the moment.
“He wants to be in a full-time football role. I think ideally at a Victorian club but I wouldn’t quite rule out Tasmania yet.”
Morris added that the AFL has also approached Fagan, although he’s not believed to be particularly interested in working for head office
Fagan won’t officially finish with the Brisbane Lions until mid-to-late October and is currently putting together a montage for each player, a tradition following premiership success.
Meanwhile, the Lions will meet with potential candidates to replace Fagan this week.
7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary revealed former West Coast premiership coach Adam Simpson will be among those to meet with the club.

“The Lions will this week begin their coffee catch-ups, which is the norm now for these coaching positions,” Cleary said on The Agenda Setters.
“Danny Daly is at the forefront of this, going around and meeting prospective coaches. I expect they will sit down with up to 10-12 coaches.
“One of those will be Adam Simpson who we know spoke to North Melbourne and decided not to progress further there. But he is interested in the Lions job and the Lions are going to sound out the premiership coach from the Eagles.”
Cam Bruce remains the favourite for the job with the Lions assistant set to progress straight to the interview stage.
“They know him inside out, so I expect he’ll go to the next stage and get a formal interview, but these are just those early catch-ups,” Cleary added.
AFL great Tom Mitchell believes it’s Bruce’s job to lose.
“You would think if Cam Bruce has already been put through the next stage that’s a pretty clear indication, I think, that he’s going to be the next coach of Brisbane,” he said.
