NASCAR México Series Heading to Yucatán for Championship Semifinal Doubleheader

MÉRIDA, Mexico — Motor racing fans in southeastern Mexico are set for an unprecedented spectacle as the NASCAR México Series announced a historic double-header event in Yucatán, scheduled for October 17–18, 2026.
Hosted at the Autódromo Yucatán “Emerson Fittipaldi” in Progreso, the event—dubbed the Gran Premio Yucatán 200—will serve as a crucial playoff race and national semifinal in the 2026 Chase for the Cup.
The announcement marks the first time in history that Mexico’s top stock car racing circuit will compete in the state of Yucatán. Originally scheduled as a single-race semifinal stop, the event’s competitive significance expanded after organizers confirmed back-to-back point-paying rounds over the weekend. Drivers in the main NASCAR México, NASCAR Challenge, and Trucks México series will take to the track on Saturday, October 17, for Round 1, followed immediately by Sunday’s semifinal finale.
“Fans will witness a modern Roman circus—racing at the absolute limit, with drivers leaving everything on the track and fighting inch-by-inch for every position,” said Jimmy Morales, director of the circuit series.
Local excitement is particularly high around Yucatecan driver Carlos Novelo Flota, who currently holds second place in the Trucks México standings and remains firmly in title contention. Racing on his home track, Novelo will look to capitalize on local fan support as he battles point leader Roberto Espinosa to lock in his spot for the final championship showdown.
Beyond the track, state officials and event organizers anticipate a significant economic boost from tourism, hospitality, and widespread media coverage. The event weekend will feature dynamic Fan Zones, sponsor activations, and premium hospitality options designed for motor sports enthusiasts across the region. General admission tickets grant fans access to both full days of qualifying rounds, supporting heats, and main events.
