Lunah came second place in the junior shot put at the recent NSW Public Schools Sports Association (PSSA) state finals held at Homebush.

And that ranking means in just five weeks she will be heading to Melbourne for the nationals to be held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park.

In addition to her shot put success Lunah also came fifth in the discus with a throw of 30.67m.

She started training in those two events a couple of years ago, travelling to Newcastle for specialist coaching, having shown a talent and keen interest in both field competitions.

With encouragement from her parents, Lunah said she first joined Singleton Little Athletics.

"I just really liked the shot put and discuss and it turned out I was good at both of them," she said.

"Thanks to the extra coaching I have really improved my results.

"It will be great to go to the nationals and we have to be there for five days - so thats even better."

For Flynn, it was his third time at the state finals, having previously competed in the individual sprint events, and this year came seventh in the 100m.

The boys play a variety of winter and summer sports, including rugby league, rugby union, soccer and touch football.

Nate and Flynn also do Little Athletics.
