NBA 2K27's September 17 Update Tunes Shooting, Steals, Game Speed

By Franz Christian Irorita,
NBA 2K27 rolled out a new round of gameplay updates automatically around September 17 at 2 a.m. PT / 5 a.m. ET, adjusting shooting, dunking, steals, and overall game speed. No download is required; players just need to return to the Main Menu to confirm they’re on the latest version.
Defensive contests are strengthened across the board: well-contested, low-percentage shot attempts are now less effective, while wide-open looks received a slight boost specifically to reward smarter shot selection. That builds on the shooting system Visual Concepts detailed in its pre-launch gameplay breakdown, which overhauled rhythm shooting and the shot meter ahead of release.
Standing dunks now succeed more often, most noticeably against average and below-average interior defenders, and the Rise Up badge provides a more meaningful benefit once equipped at Gold tier or higher.
On the defensive side, 2K addressed an issue where lower-rated defenders, along with players running on depleted adrenaline, could land on-ball steals more consistently than elite defenders; steal rating is now properly rewarded specifically on contact with the ball.
The update also fixes an issue causing inconsistent pacing, with overall game speed now increased and standardized to play the same across every mode. Together with the shooting and defensive tweaks, the patch continues the steady stream of balance changes Visual Concepts has made since launch, following our launch-week review that called this year’s on-court feel the series’ best in years despite some lingering rough edges. Players can follow the official NBA 2K Discord for future patch notes and announcements.
