New athletic facility 'wows' SCAD athletes

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — The Savanah College of Art and Design unveiled a brand-new, 16,000 square feet facility for its athletes to the media on Tuesday.

The new building includes brand-new, spacious locker rooms for lacrosse, soccer and flag football, as well as new athletic training spaces.

SCAD’S design team, which includes SCAD alums, designed the building.

The facility is already in use. It also includes a kitchen, athletic training room and a lounge area for players and coaches to enjoy.

In each locker room, a television sits at the end of the wood-grained lockers.

Even the circular light fixtures in the halls provide a unique touch.

Coaches and athletes said before the completion of the building, artist-athletes would come to practice already dressed and have to wash their own uniforms.

Coaches said this facility will help with recruitment.

“I’ve already seen an uptick in potential transfers and just the ’27-’28 recruiting classes,” men’s head lacrosse coach Justin Moe said. “So guys are already reaching out. It’s the No. 1 art and design school in the country. Now we’re adding to our great programs.”
