NFL star takes savage swipe at former team and injured quarterback with unsavory post

New England Patriots star Dre'Mont Jones posted an image of his sack on Sam Darnold while sneakily sending a message to his former team, the Seattle Seahawks, tagging a page titled 'f--- the Seahawks'.

Jones faced his former team for the first time on Wednesday night, while getting a sack on the first drive. He brought down Sam Darnold as the quarterback attempted to scramble, leaving the game with a hip injury as a result of the play and being hospitalized.

Back-up quarterback Drew Lock came into the game in Darnold's place with Jones and the Patriots defense struggling to contain him, as he completed 16-of-22 passing attempts with a touchdown and no turnovers to win the game. But Jones looked to rub Darnold's injury in Seahawks fans' faces after the game while taking another moment to enjoy his sack.

He posted an image of himself bringing down Darnold, while tagging the aforementioned account in a shot to his former team.

The Seahawks gave Jones a three-year, $51 million deal in 2023 — still his biggest contract to date — joining Pete Carroll's team at the time.

Jones remained with the Seahawks for two years, through Mike Macdonald's first year with the team, but the defensive line struggled to live up to the deal. He recorded just 8.5 sacks in two seasons before being cut in 2025 — missing out on being a part of the team that won the Super Bowl.

It appears he holds some disdain for being cut, as he has been on his third team since leaving the Seahawks.

Jones signed with the Tennessee Titans last season before he was traded to the Baltimore Ravens, who chose not to bring him back, and agreed terms with the Patriots this offseason.

Darnold was feared to have sustained a season-ending hip injury, but it has since been confirmed that he has avoided any serious damage.

Head coach Macdonald told reporters, "With Sam, we got some great news back. Let's just say it's good news right now. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sam; we love him, and the guys really pulled through for him.

"At this point, we were able to rule out a fracture. There's some more tests to be done, so that's what I'm saying when it's positive. We're still working through all of that, but right now, fracture is out, which is great news."

Reports emerged on Thursday that Darnold will miss the Seahawks' next game against the Arizona Cardinals and potentially the following when they travel to the Washington Commanders.

The Patriots will play the Pittsburgh Steelers next week, before tough games against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills.
