NHL 27 Unlocks Soon — Here's The Exact Release Time

The early access period has been a little rough for NHL 27. Many fans have complained aggressively online, but with the official release coming up Friday, I'd expect to see a launch update very soon. While it won't likely address every issue that fans have complained about, there's two things that you can bank on. First, it's not nearly as bad as people are saying.

It's 2026, and it's simply not cool to like anything. People feel like raging is their right and it makes them real. Secondly, there are some issues and the ones that can be addressed will be touched soon. Others, and EA probably won't tell us which ones those are, won't get much. In any case, here's all the information on the release time. Let's talk NHL.

Friday, September 11, 2026

12 p.m. ET, listed as 4 p.m. UTC on EA's product page

Simultaneous across U.S. time zones, not a rolling midnight unlock

PS5 and Xbox Series X and S

September 4 through September 10, Deluxe Edition only

10 hours, also from September 4

EA has not announced a launch patch or published notes for one, so nothing about the day-one build is confirmed beyond the unlock itself. Connected Franchise is the feature EA has pushed hardest in the run-up to release. The Deluxe early access window closes Thursday, September 10, which means the seven-day head start has one day left to be worth the upcharge over Standard.

NHL generally lives in a tough spot on the release calendar. It's after EA College Football and Madden, but just ahead of EA FC. Those are massive titles with wild fanbases and NHL keeps chugging along. This year's game is more polished and prettier than previous years, but the thing that many fans are saying that is true is that there are very few major upgrades to anything.

Does that make it a bad version? No, it doesn't. NHL 27 still plays a solid game of virtual hockey and if you really like the sport in a video game environment, it's fine. That said, this isn't a major leap year for the franchise.
