No. 8 MSU women’s soccer takes down USF

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The nationally ranked Minnesota State women’s soccer team rolled to a commanding victory over Sioux Falls, powered by a three-goal performance from forward Amara Smith.
Holding a 1-0 advantage in the first half, the Mavericks doubled their lead when Mila Rustin lofted a cross into the box that Maddix Archer headed into the back of the net.
Rustin continued to spark the MSU offense moments later, sending another cross that resulted in a handball following a review. Smith stepped up to the spot and calmly converted the penalty kick to notch her second goal of the match and put the Mavericks up 3-0 heading into the break.
Smith completed her hat trick in the second half which marks the program’s first hat trick in nearly two years. MSU wins by a final of 5-0.
The Mavericks return to the pitch on Sunday to take on SMSU.
