Novak Djokovic could chase coach Andy Murray's Olympic record at 41

Novak Djokovic has already broken enough tennis records to fill an entire career, but Andy Murray believes his former rival may have another reason to stick around until the 2028 Olympics.

And this one involves Murray himself.

Djokovic has spoken about wanting to compete at the Los Angeles Games, which would see him playing Olympic tennis at the age of 41.

Asked about that possibility, Murray said he would not be surprised to see the Serbian make it that far but Los Angeles could offer Djokovic more than simply another Olympic appearance.

Murray finished his career with three Olympic medals, including back-to-back singles golds at London 2012 and Rio 2016. He also won silver in mixed doubles alongside Laura Robson in London.

Djokovic finally won the Olympic singles title in Paris in 2024, beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final to complete one of the few achievements that had been missing from his career.

He had previously won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Another medal in Los Angeles would therefore add another chapter to a rivalry that continued long after Murray stopped playing professionally.

The two spent years facing each other across the net before Murray briefly joined Djokovic's coaching team following his retirement. Djokovic, meanwhile, is still competing at 39 and has become increasingly selective about where he plays.

He recently said tournaments where he enjoys playing and feels welcomed by supporters have become more important when deciding his schedule.

Whether his body allows him to keep going for another two years remains the bigger question.
