Owen Sound North Stars under-9 team wins provincials gold . . . again

The Owen Sound North Stars beat Orangeville to capture the provincial crown.
Just months after winning an Ontario Lacrosse field lacrosse championship, the Owen Sound North Stars under-9 girls team won another.
This weekend in Hamilton, the North Stars won the Ontario Lacrosse Sixes ‘A’ championship in dominant fashion.
After a 21-3 win over Burlington, a 23-0 shutout of Kitchener-Waterloo, and a 21-0 shutout victory over Barrie, the North Stars met Orangeville in the championship.
Tenley Scott recorded a hat-trick while Camille Spencer (2), Piper Von Dungerin, Bree Mandawoub, and Leah Boyd all scored in an 8-4 win over the Northmen.
Addy Mitchell earned the win in net.
Introduced by World Lacrosse in 2018, Sixes is a fast-paced, compact version of field lacrosse.
Peter Debrone, Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Sixes vice president, said Owen Sound is the province’s fifth-largest Sixes program. The organization runs the local Sixes program out of the ball park in Annan.
The championship squad featured Scott, Spencer, Von Dungerin, Mandawoub, Boyd, Bryar Kazarian, Wrenley Shlakat, Avery Jones, Anita Monahan, Elliott Brown, and Addy Mitchell. Coaches are Bryan Kazarian, Michael Boyd (trainer), Adam Jones, Matt Brown (manager) and Andrew Mitchell.
Meanwhile, the Owen Sound North Stars under-11 boys Sixes team earned a silver medal in the ‘A’ championship tournament in Hamilton.
