Pakistan look to seal T20I series as Sri Lanka fight to stay alive

LAHORE - Pakistan will look to clinch the three-match T20 International series when they face Sri Lanka in the second encounter at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium today(Sunday - October 11), with the visitors desperate to bounce back after losing the opening match. Pakistan hold a 1-0 advantage following their convincing four-wicket victory in the first T20I, in which they chased down Sri Lanka’s 182-8 in 18.5 overs. The hosts’ commanding response has put them in a strong position to seal the series, while Sri Lanka must deliver a significantly improved performance to keep the contest alive.
Sri Lanka’s total was built around an impressive innings from Lahiru Udara, who struck 91 off 55 balls to provide the backbone of the innings. However, his efforts proved insufficient as Pakistan’s batting line-up chased the target with seven balls to spare, underlining the visitors’ difficulties in containing the hosts.
Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan will be keen to maintain the momentum after the opening victory. The home side could retain the same playing XI, having demonstrated considerable strength in both batting and bowling. Fakhar Zaman’s promotion to the opening position and Saim Ayub’s move to No. 5 were among the notable tactical adjustments in the first match.
Fast bowler Naseem Shah will also be under scrutiny after taking two wickets on his return to T20I cricket. His performance offered encouragement as he continues to rebuild his international form following an injury-interrupted period.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, face important decisions over their batting combination. Lahiru Udara’s impressive contribution exposed the need for greater consistency throughout the top and middle order. The visitors may consider strengthening their batting depth, while Maheesh Theekshana will be expected to make a greater impact with the ball after an expensive opening outing. The Rawalpindi pitch offered assistance to fast bowlers in the first match, and similar conditions could influence the teams’ strategies again. Pakistan will aim to exploit home advantage, while Sri Lanka must improve their execution in both departments. With Pakistan chasing an unassailable series lead and Sri Lanka fighting to remain in contention, the Sunday’s encounter carries significant importance for both sides. A victory would give Pakistan the series, whereas a Sri Lankan response would set up a decisive third match.
