Payton Talbott’s UFC 332 win dismissed as just another ‘easy layup’ by top-10 bantamweight

It is safe to say that one name high up the UFC bantamweight ladder is unimpressed by Payton Talbott.
The 28-year-old continued his winning ways in his return to action at Saturday’s UFC 332 event in Salt Lake City.
Before Natalia Silva beat Wang Cong to become champion at 125 pounds in the main event, Talbott finished Deiveson Figueiredo in just 129 seconds.
Dana White had huge praise for the co-main event winner at the post-fight press conference, as have many fans and analysts in the aftermath. But the undefeated Farid Basharat has shared a different perspective.
The criticized event delivered a record-setting 11 knockouts!
Not many were predicting that Talbott would run through Figueiredo in the way that he did at Salt Lake City’s Delta Center.
The former two-time flyweight champion was quickly put away by the rising American bantamweight, who has now beaten two ex-titleholders in a row.
Before stopping ‘Deus da Guerra’ at UFC 332, Talbott retired the legendary Henry Cejudo last December in Las Vegas.
While those results have left many tipping Talbott for big things at 135 pounds, the No. 9-ranked bantamweight contender has not seen anything to warrant such praise so far.
“Easy layups,” Basharat wrote shortly after Talbott’s latest triumph on X.
“Talbott beat 2 ‘legends’. Their form going into his fights… Cejudo 0-3, Figueredo 1-4.

Basharat is 16-0 in professional MMA, having won all seven of his UFC fights since a victory on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022.
‘Ferocious’ has one knockout in the sport, which came before his stint in the Octagon began. He has only one finish in the UFC, with his last five wins all coming on the scorecards.
Basharat is coming off a win over Johan Garza. Before that, he narrowly secured a split decision triumph over Jean Matsumoto.
