Penguins' Sidney Crosby sets record for most assists with one franchise

Another chapter has been recorded in the record books for Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby.

The 39-year-old veteran recorded his 1,112th career assist against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday at the Bell Centre, which is the most with one franchise in NHL history.

The assist was recorded in the first period on the power play with a goal from defenseman Erik Karlsson to open up the scoring for the Penguins.

Crosby has climbed the leaderboard by surpassing Bruins record holder Ray Bourque (1,111) to achieve the milestone and become NHL's all-time leader in career helpers with one team.

Collecting all the assists across his 22-season tenure with the Penguins, while Bourque achieved it across 21 seasons.

But following a goal from Tommy Novak with 7:28 remaining in the first period, the Penguins captain recorded his 1,113th assist, adding to his feat. With his 1,113 assists, he is now 22 assists behind Paul Coffey.

Wayne Gretzky remains the career leader with 1,963. Crosby also moved into 6th place on the NHL's all-time career assists list, and now has three goals and five assists across his first 14 games this season. Last season, he logged 29 goals, 45 assists with a total of 74 points across 68 games.

There's just no stopping ''Sid the Kid'' who can continue to make history as he also trails Marcel Dionne by one point, which would place him sixth on the NHL's all-time points list (1,771). All in all, Crosby is a walking record book, and by the time he wraps up his NHL career, he will have an extensive hockey resume that fans will never forget.
