Penn State men’s tennis wraps up ITA Northeast Regional Championships

Philadelphia, Pa. — The Penn State men’s tennis team returned home from a weekend at ITA Regionals hosted by the University of Pennsylvania from Oct. 15-20.

Eight Nittany Lions competed in the tournament. Redshirt junior Marcus Schoeman and junior David Lindsay each collected two singles wins.

Sophomore Kyle Chesman collected a singles victory in the first qualifying round. Junior Reiya Hattori and sophomore Eyal Shyovitz each picked up a singles win in the main draw.

All four of the Nittany Lions’ doubles teams won their opening round matches.

Sophomore Christos Glavas and Hattori defeated Villanova’s Anand/Frattarelli 8-4, and freshman Ludwig Hermann and Chesman defeated St. John’s duo of Zivkovic/Pottbecker 8-6. Sophomore Emil Matikainen and Schoeman also conquered Drexel’s Moukarzel/Obrul 8-4.

Lindsay and Shyovitz picked up their first doubles victory against Temple’s Ducruet/Aguilar 8-7 (7-3) and a second against Fairleigh Dickinson’s Nagashima/Wrann 8-6.

The Nittany Lions now focus their efforts on the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., from Oct. 29-Nov. 1.
