Peterborough United Women clinched back-to-back National League wins by toppling previously unbeaten Huddersfield Town at PIMS Park on Sunday.
Perfect weekend for Peterborough United completed as the Women topple a previously unbeaten National League side

Posh won the game 3-2 to complete a great weekend for a club that also saw the men win at Leicester City in League One and the under 18s win at Professional Development League level for the first time this season.

The women copied the men by storming into a 3-0 half-time lead against Huddersfield before the visitors ensured a nervy final by scoring from two penalty kicks.

But Posh held on in a game that delayed by nearly 20 minutes because of a serious injury to visiting player Amy Kelly. The win moved Posh up to eighth in the Northern Premier Division and there is a five point gap to the bottom two.

Standings: 1 Rugby B P7 18pts, 2 Stoke City P7 14pts, 3 Huddersfield P7 14pts, 4 West Brom P6 12pts, 5 Norwich City P7 10pts, 6 LIverpool Feds P7 9pts, 7 Derby County P7 9pts, 8 POSH P7 9pts, 9 Loughborough Lightning P6 7pts, 10 Boldmere St Michael P7 6pts, 11 Middlesbrough P7 4ots, 12 Hull City P7 4pts.

Posh played some superb football in the first 45 minutes and then showed impressive tenacity after the break against a team who have now dropped a place to third.

Posh started perfectly as Poppie Brown and Lauren Wilshaw carved out a third minute headed opportunity for top scorer Ellie May who took it expertly.

Both goalkeepers than shone in quick succession with Posh number one Neive Corry saving well with her legs before May was denied at the other end.

Jess Driscoll's long-range effort cleared the crossbar on 35 minutes before Posh extended their advantage as Wilshaw’s whipped corner sailed straight into the net. And two minutes later Evie Driscoll-King smashed home a volley from another set piece.

On 57 minutes Huddersfield reduced the arrears from the spot through Laura Elford after a handball by Camille Jenkins and on 82 minutes Louise Biggins also netted from the spot.

But Posh defended their lead well to ensure a second one-goal win in a row. Posh will chase the hat-trick at bottom club Hull City next Sunday (October 18).

Posh: Corry, Jenkins, Pitt, Driscoll-King, Perkins, Bartlett (sub Steggles, 77 mins), Mears, Brown, Driscoll, Wilshaw (sub Rai, 71 mins), May. Unused subs: Reynolds, Saunders, Osker, Connor.

Posh gave a debut as a second half substitute to new signing Charlotte Steggles, a former Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Loughborough Lightning defender. Posh have allowed forward Freya Andersen to join National Midlands Division One side Notts County.

**Posh Under 18s beat Sheffield United 2-0 in their Premier Development League game at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground on Saturday thanks to an own goal and a well-taken effort from Luca Christoudias.
