Peterborough Sports boss Graham Drury has urged his side to make winning ‘an obsession.’
Peterborough Sports boss wants winning to become an obsession for his in-form side

The city side maintained their steady climb up the Southern Premier Division Central table with a thrilling 4-2 success against Rushall Olympic PIMS Park on Saturday despite the absence of several key players.

It was a third straight home win in all competitions with 10 goals scored for Sports who now have a break from league action. Sports host divisional rivals Kettering Town in a Northants Hillier Cup tie on Tuesday (September 15, 7.45pm) before an FA Cup second round qualifying round tie at AFC Rushden & Diamonds next Saturday (September 19).

Drury will hope to have injured players Carl Mensah (knee) and Leon Lobjoit (back) back for the FA Cup tie. Goalkeeper Tom Jackson will return from suspension.

Michael Richens converted two penalties, while Ben Hart, with a screamer, and 42 year-old substitute Michael Frew also scored against Rushall.

"I don’t really know where to start with my match summary,” Drury told Peterborough Community Radio. “We were playing a side who gamble with their forward runners so I knew they would overload us at times.

"We had to play on the counter attack because of the players we had available and yet we controlled the first-half and went 2-0 up.

"But we were so naive, and they were very brave, in the five minutes before half-time and it ends up at 2-2. I was so disappointed with that.

"We dug in after the break though and then took our chances when they came. Ben Hart’s goal was an incredible strike and then our 42 year-old substitute, with a body to compare with Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime, went on and did his bit.

"The chairman said he wanted to see 4-3 wins so we almost delivered that for him and he deserves a lot of praise for the support he’s given me lately.

"We have budgeted for an 18-man squad, but we have 21 players currently because of the unavailabilities. We had six probable starters missing in this game, but we got the job done.

"Winning has to become an obsession. It is with me. I’m a nutcase on the sidelines. I try and get perfection from my players.”

Hart picked up an injury and went off as soon as he scored.
