Philadelphia 76ers, Flyers give first look at new arena coming in 2030

The Philadelphia 76ers, Flyers and future WNBA team will soon have a new home.

Scheduled to open in 2030, a new arena will be able to give a next-generation fan experience for sports, concerts, live entertainment and more.

The venue is also expected to drive business to the neighborhoods surrounding it.

NBC10's Tim Furlong was in South Philly on Tuesday morning at the former site of the Spectrum, where a new arena is set to be built as officials have shared new renderings of the proposed structure.

This will mark Philadelphia's largest fully privately funded project in the city's history. The new arena is anticipated to create nearly 15,000 jobs and generate nearly $6 billion in economic activity over the next 10 years, with hundreds of millions in new tax revenue directly benefiting the School District of Philadelphia and the city.

Planners hope to break ground in early 2027, pending the necessary approvals from City Council and the city.

“Philly fans deserve the best arena in the world, and we are excited to partner with Comcast to deliver just that. This privately funded arena will be the home to moments and memories that define this city for generations,” said Josh Harris, Co-Founder of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Managing Partner of the Philadelphia 76ers. “We have an incredible opportunity ahead of us and look forward to partnering with Mayor Parker and Council President Kenyatta Johnson to transform a site rich with history, while creating thousands of jobs, driving lasting economic impact and delivering an arena that honors the deep sports and entertainment culture of the city. I’m grateful to my partners David Blitzer, David Adelman, Brian Roberts and Dan Hilferty for helping make this vision a reality.”
“This is a new era for Philadelphia sports. To build our future where Ed Snider and the Spectrum made history makes this project truly special. Working with HBSE, we are creating a world-class experience worthy of Philadelphia’s incredible fans,” said Brian Roberts, Chairman of Comcast Corporation. “None of this would be possible without great partners, and I’m deeply grateful to Dan Hilferty, Josh Harris, David Adelman, David Blitzer, and all the teams who worked so hard to get us here — we can’t wait to bring championships to this new home. I would also like to thank Mayor Parker and Council President Kenyatta Johnson for their leadership as we work to bring this transformative project to life for Philadelphia and its fans."

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts and Co-Founder of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Managing Partner of the Philadelphia 76ers Josh Harris spoke with NBC Sports Philadelphia reporter Amy Fadool about the plans to build a new area in South Philly.

Comcast is the parent company of NBC10 and NBC Universal.
