Philadelphia Eagles fans are overjoyed after Zach Ertz returns to franchise amid NFL injury crisis

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed three-time Pro Bowl TE Zach Ertz back to the franchise as a practice squad member to address their worsening injury crisis.
The Eagles have to deal with losing star TE Dallas Goedert for multiple weeks to a sprained MCL while already having the likes of rookie Eli Stowers and veteran Grant Calcaterra on injured reserve.
The 2025 Super Bowl Champions want to return to the mountaintop, but their roster depth is being tested already. They’re already making emergency signings, as 36-year-old TE Zach Ertz returns to the team.
After Adam Schefter confirmed that Ertz will return to the Eagles for the 2026 season as a practice squad member, fans of the franchise exploded with joy to see the 2018 Super Bowl Champion return.
“OMG HE IS HOME,” exclaimed an ecstatic Eagles fan.
“Zach Ertz coming back brings a tear to my face,” said one emotional fan.
“This means everything to me,” said another emotional Eagles fan.
“Ertz back in an Eagles uniform just feels right. Even if it’s only for a short stretch, that’ll be fun to see,” said another fan.
“Let’s go, we got a super team again,” said one overenthusiastic fan.
“Demon is back,” said one Eagles fan with a fan compilation of Ertz’s best moments on the Eagles.
While Ertz has been signed to the practice squad right now, he is expected to be activated in time for the Eagles’ Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears on September 28.
Ertz spent eight seasons with the Eagles (2013-21), registering 579 receptions, 6,267 yards, and 38 touchdowns in 123 games over that span.
He earned three Pro Bowl nominations and returns with the opportunity to overtake Harold Carmichael (589) on the franchise’s all-time receptions list, currently at 578 for his career.
With Goedert out with a sprained MCL, and rotational options like rookie Eli Stowers and veteran Grant Calcaterra already on injured reserve, the Eagles are hoping Ertz can be a high-value temporary solution.
He has pre-existing chemistry with QB Jalen Hurts and familiarity with the Eagles system, but his post-ACL reality will definitely impact his ability to burst free and register high YAC.
However, his strong hands and route running will make him a reliable end-zone option in place of the core players.
