Premiership rugby round-up: Ayr extend lead with narrow win at Kelso as Currie's run halted by Watsonian

Ayr were pushed all the way to the final whistle by Kelso in round four of the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership with the reigning champions recording a 28-26 win in the Borders.

It means that Grant Anderson’s side have extended their lead at the top of the table and are the only team still with a one hundred percent record after Currie’s three game winning run was halted by Watsonian. The Balerno outfit travelled to Myreside looking to keep their perfect start to the season going but a 19-12 victory for the hosts ended that streak.

Elsewhere, Edinburgh Accies picked up their first points of the season by beating Glasgow Hawks at Raeburn Place. Both sides were without a win from the opening three rounds going into the match but it was the National Division 1 champions, back in the top flight after a two year absence, who broke their duck with a 33-29 victory.

Melrose also got back to winning ways after their loss at Currie last weekend with a 28-26 win at home to Heriots. That made it three out of five matches on the day that were decided by a single score.

The biggest winners of the round were GHA who left Hawick with a bonus point victory. The Glasgow side recorded a 33-19 bonus point win at Mansfield Park.

The game of the weekend next Saturday comes from Goldenacre as Ayr travel to Heriot’s. GHA are at home to Kelso, Glasgow Hawks host Hawick, Edinburgh Accies make the trip to Currie and Watsonian are at Melrose.
